What's In A Name?

Where did "The Revival of My Brain" come from?

Have you ever actually had the ability to inspect the design of your brain? I have, and although it looks suitable enough for designer brain standards with cute squiggles on each side with a line fairly close to being dead in the center (no pun intended), there is one unmistakable issue – a giant tumor. In 2010, I was diagnosed with and underwent surgery at University Hospital to remove a grade 2 brain tumor, called an astrocytoma. Although the entire tumor, which was about the size of a large egg, had been removed, it was on a mission to wake me up because it was only a year and a half before it was peaking it's ugly head again. I underwent yet another surgery (this time awake) to find out it had escalated to a grade 3 oligodendro/astrocytoma. I was told that without radiation that it was likely to start redeveloping in just a few months. Wake up call heard. Instead of dreading the whole process, I decided to make as much enjoyment out of it as I could. That is when I realized it was time to upgrade my camera and start snapping photos in and around Cleveland to seek some serenity of the earth while simultaneously express my feelings more artistically. I gained a new strength and energy to display my consciousness in a way that others could also enjoy. It brought back, or revived, my love of art in a way that I never thought I had. It allowed me to overcome the fears of a bad situation and turn it into something more positive.

Why Didn't I Just Use My Actual Name?

For me personally, what I began was more than just getting myself out there. It was an awakening for me on what path I wanted to travel down to express myself and my view on things. It's my feeling of what this has done for me on a personal level to help me recover from a setback in life. However, that does not mean that you have to do the same.

To Use Or Not To Use, That Is Up To You

Many popular artists use their real name to sell their art. If you are already well known for what you do, you may want to keep it with your name so that you continue to be easy to find on the internet and on social media. Using your name can also make things a little easier because you do not have to file for a registered trade name within your state (keep that in mind if you are using a different name). There are no set rules on how you should name your business - it is what looks, sounds and feels good to you. Reflect on what your goals are with the business and what you are trying to present to the public. Is there a special word or phrase that represents what you are after? What about a certain image? Looking at the giant tumor on my MRI made me want to turn the negative aspects of it around. That is where the peace sign is now displayed. Ask yourself if the name will be easy for people to remember as well as easy to spell in a search. Do similar names already exist? If you are not using your real name, be sure to do some research on whether or not it is already out there. Have fun with it! The art of naming it comes with more excitement on your future endeavors!

It's always fun to see peoples' expressions when reading the name of the business - many tell me that they need to revive their own brains! ;)
